Why Do We Intend to Sell the Sion Program?
We want to do everything possible to make the Sion a reality. We intend to offer any interested third parties to purchase the Sion program.
The success of the Sion’s recent 18-vehicle series-validation program was proof to us that the concept of a solar electric vehicle works. Just before entering pre-series production, the Sion was on a trajectory to become a disruptor in the automotive solar technology industry.
We want to do everything possible to make the Sion a reality. We intend to offer any interested third parties to purchase the Sion program.
By selling the industrialization rights and assets to build the world’s first affordable Solar Electric Vehicles.
The offer could contain the following positions:
The body in white is the structural body of a vehicle. During the production of the body-in-white, the individual aluminum profiles are joined together to form the body. The result is the Sion's skeleton, so to speak. This forms the basic framework to which other components are later attached.
The wheels, the tyres, the suspension, the steering, the brakes, the springs, the dampers, everything that connects the vehicle to the ground. An increased wheelbase, advanced braking system and an improved design for performance, robustness and safety, ready for validation. These are the Sion's chassis.
The electric powertrain consists of the following relevant components: an LFP-high voltage battery pack, the distrubution charging unit, a DC-DC converter and an electric drive unit consisting of an inverter, electric machine and transmission. This connected system enables reliable and efficient driving, regenerative braking and fast charging, wherever you drive.
The DCU (Distribution & Charging Unit) is the component of the Sion that enables both charging and discharging of the vehicle. From regular charging, to fast charging, to bidirectional charging features like vehicle to load, vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to home and vehicle to grid, energy can be provided to a variety of different use cases. Connected to the Sono wallbox, the component transfers the vehicles into an energy storage. The usage of a battery electric vehicle is thereby redefined. AC and DC charging will be ready for start of production, V2L, V2G and V2H will be activated by over-the-air-update after start of production.
The electrification of a vehicle means the electric/electronic architecture is of high importance. The solar integration on the exterior, the chassis, the powertrain, as well as the infotainment system and driver assistance systems rely on a consolidated wiring system, which enables functions and features of the Sion. This leading system of connections is called the wiring harness.
Focus on functionality. The Sion's interior is kept deliberately simple whilst offering plenty of space, is hard-wearing and comfortable. We have used sustainable materials and made them visible as a unique design feature. The eye-catching element of the interior is the moss, which can be arranged entirely according to personal preference.
Solar stands out. The exterior and body closures parts of the Sion are redefined. Monocrystaline silicon cells embedded in polymer and an electronic architecture centralized through the MCU, provide energy whenever there is sun shines on the surface of the vehicle. It reduces the need for grid-charging and increases the usage of renewable energy to support the transformation to cleaner mobility in the automotive industry.

We are currently putting our fleet of series-validation vehicles through their paces. In doing so, we run through hundreds of individual tests and compare them with our simulations (CAE).
So called computer-aided engineering (CAE), are key for our development process. We do thousands of engineering loops to make sure, the Sion becomes a very safe and reliable vehicle. This simultaneous engineering reduces overall costs and development time.
