The Energy Revolution on Four Wheels

Driven by the Sun

Electric driving is no new thing, but only the Sion can produce its own energy and share it with others. This innovative solar car has the capability of recharging itself via the power of the sun and thus generate additional range. Our innovations enable use of the energy through bidirectional charging or to share it with others via to our sharing services.

Sono Solar: Harnessing the Power of the Sun

The sun delivers enough energy in one hour to supply the entire world population with electricity for an entire year. We are harnessing this potential to make the Sion even more independent from the grid. Through solar panels seamlessly integrated into its body, under ideal conditions, the Sion can generate an additional 112 km on average (up to 245 km) of range per week.

Bidirectional Charging: Power Where You Need It

Bidirectional charging technology enables the Sion to both draw and store energy as well as share it. All common electronic devices can be operated and charged with up to 3.7 kW, via a household plug (SchuKo), using the Sion as an energy source. The Sion can deliver even more power via a type 2 plug. Electric cars and also high-voltage appliances up to 11 kW can then be charged and operated.

  • Charging capacity: up to 75 kW DC with CCS; up to 11 kW AC with type 2 + SchuKo
  • Discharging capacity: 11 kW AC with type 2; 3.7 kW with SchuKo

My Energy Is Your Energy – Power Sharing With the Sion

Our bidirectional charging system in combination with the Sono app allows you to use your Sion as an independent charging station and share the stored energy with others. You decide how much power you want to give away. This function turns the Sion into a mobile charging station.

Charging Systems

You can charge the Sion at nearly any charging station in Europe via any of three different charging methods: SchuKo, Type 2 and CCS.

Via a SchuKo to type 2 adapter cable, depending on the capability of the socket itself, it can take up to 12.5 hours to fully charge a completely empty battery up to 100%.

European Household Plug (SchuKo)

This method takes 4 hours to provide 80% charge and 5 hours for 100%.

Standard Charging Station (Type 2)

The Sion can be charged up to 80% in 35 minutes using CCS. You will have to allow for an additional 24 minutes for a 100% charge. Nevertheless, 80% provides 240 km of range, which is often enough to take you to the next rapid charging station.
